On Saturday 1st September Caithness Board Riders held the first event in their under 18’s winter league.

Melvich beach was the location for the counties youngest surfers to compete in the first event of seven, monthly, competitions.

Conditions were small but good with 1 to 2 ft waves and light winds. The judges were impressed with the improved standard of surfing since the Winter Warm Up Competition of 2005 and all involved have high hopes for future talents.

C.B.R’s President, Michael Heddle Said “The success of this, our first club competition, gives us much encouragement for the future of youth surfing in Caithness. It was great to see everyone unite to make this day possible. Caithness is home to some of the best waves in Europe and it is our aim to get local talent making use of them.”
